Our partners at Out Sports break the news that some of the most LGBTQ+-friendly cities worldwide want to host the Gay Games in 2030. The race is on to be awarded the 13th edition of the world’s largest LGBTQ+ inclusive multisport event. A record 25 cities on six continents are interested in bidding. Initial proposals are due In March. Three cities will then make it to the final stage and the winner will be named in November 2025. Here are the cities competing to host the gay Olympics but can’t say “Olympic: games. Australian cities are Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, and Auckland. From Asia, Taipei. From Africa, Cape Town and Johannesburg. From Europe Frankfurt, Athens, Liverpool, and London. South America has a nominee from Sao Paulo. And North America makes up more than half of the cities. From Canada are Edmonton and Vancouver. America’s cities: Atlanta, Birmingham, Boston, Denver, Honolulu, Minneapolis, Oak Creek, San Antonio, San Diego and Seattle. Queer News Tonight is cheering for our own hometown bid from Miami. The most recent Gay Games were co-hosted in Hong Kong and Guadalajara. The Federation of Gay Games will hope for a stronger turnout at Valencia 2026. The 2023 Games faced challenges of the late change from Taiwan over the naming issue of Chinese Taipei. The games then announced a two-city hosting of Hong Kong and Guadalajara. In total, North America has hosted six of the 11 Gay Games. #Queer Up Sports
