A Marriage Between America’s Biggest Ass and Ass Kisser

In a move that raised eyebrows, Donald Trump selected Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his vice-presidential nominee. Trump's choice was driven by Vance's unwavering loyalty despite past harsh criticisms of Trump. Vance's shift from a vocal Trump critic to a staunch supporter is notable. In 2016, Vance labeled Trump a "moral disaster" and contemplated voting for Hillary Clinton. After the “Access Hollywood” tape came out in 2016, Vance said, “Fellow Christians, everyone is watching us when we apologize for this man. Lord help us.” However, his desire for political power eventually led him to embrace Trump’s policies, even mimicking Trump’s style. This was so visible that at a 2022 rally in Youngstown, Ohio, the former president, who led the January 6 insurrection, joked about Vance's excessive flattery. Trump said, “J.D. is kissing my ass. Of course, he wants my support.” Adding to Trump’s authoritarian fantasies, Vance did not mind risking democratic values either. During the Republican primary for his Ohio seat, Vance said, “I think the election was stolen from Trump.” He was talking about the 2020 presidential election. He also downplayed the January 6 domestic terrorism incident to align with Trump. Vance's alignment with Trump extends to foreign policies, too. He carries a dismissive stance on the Russia-Ukraine war. On Steve Bannon’s podcast, Vance said, “I think it’s ridiculous that we’re focused on this border in Ukraine. I’ve got to be honest with you, I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.” Trump’s selection of Vance over other potential VP picks, such as Senator Tim Scott and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, indicates his preference for an ass-kisser over expanding his voter base.
