African Country Of Mali Criminalizes Gay Sex

In a move troubling to LGBTQ advocates, Mali’s military-led government has voted to criminalize homosexuality. The National Transitional Council, which has held power for over three years, has approved the penal code amendment with a near-unanimous vote of 131 in favor, and one against. Now, the final approval rests with Mali's military leaders. Under the new penal code, anyone engaging in or promoting queer identities will face prosecution. This development raises concerns across West Africa, as neighboring Burkina Faso’s junta is reportedly preparing similar measures. Mali’s new penal code is yet to be published, leaving many details uncertain. #Queer Up The World View
