Florida’s tourism website, VisitFlorida.com, has quietly removed its “LGBTQ Travel” page, which previously showcased the state’s LGBTQ-friendly destinations. Archived versions of the site reveal that the page once highlighted gay-friendly beaches, Pride events, and LGBTQ road trip ideas. The removed section used to read, “There’s a sense of freedom to Florida’s beaches, the warm weather and the myriad activities — a draw for people of all orientations, but especially appealing to a gay community looking for a sense of belonging and acceptance.” The link to the LGBTQ Travel page now redirects to a general “things to do” page. It’s unclear when the page was removed or why, as Visit Florida, a nonprofit established by the Florida Legislature, has not provided details about the decision. Despite this removal, the site continues to feature travel information for other minority groups, including Black and Hispanic communities. This action reflects a broader trend of restricting LGBTQ content in Florida. Recent years have seen legislation aimed at limiting LGBTQ-inclusive education, healthcare, and sports participation. Schools have also removed LGBTQ-related books, and last week, New College of Florida discarded hundreds of books on LGBTQ issues, race, and women’s rights. DeSantis even fought a prolonged legal battle with Disney, which has a major corporate presence in the state, following the company's opposition to the state's "Don’t Say Gay" law. The Human Rights Campaign and Equality Florida issued a travel advisory last year, highlighting the risks of traveling to Florida amid the legislative changes and their impact on the LGBTQ community.
