Appeals Court Upholds Ban On Anti-Trans Arizona Sports Law

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s decision blocking Arizona’s law barring transgender girls from public school sports teams. Signed by former Governor Doug Ducey in 2022, the law faced legal challenges from parents of two trans girls in April 2023. U.S. District Judge Jennifer Zipps blocked the ban in July, citing equal protection concerns. Arizona Superintendent Tom Horne appealed, but a three-judge panel unanimously upheld Zipps's ruling. NCLR attorney Rachel Berg praised the decision, noting it affirms equal rights for transgender students. #Trans Rights
