As Canada Leans Conservative, Trans Charities Reach The Tipping Point

LGBTQ organizations in Canada are bracing for potential funding cuts amid shifting political winds. With polls indicating a Conservative Party victory in Canada’s next federal election, groups like the AIDS Committee of Toronto and the Community-Based Research Centre fear reductions to federal funding. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has pledged to eliminate “wasteful” spending and it is increasing concerns within the queer community about future support for LGBTQ and trans services. Some charities, like the LGBT YouthLine, are already seeing diminished support, with individual donations halving from 2022 to 2023. Meanwhile, the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity was recently shut down due to financial constraints. #Trans Rights
