A queer bar devastated by Hurricane Helene in September is receiving a new lease on life thanks to generous donations worldwide. Nearly $200,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe campaign to rebuild DayTrip, an LGBTQ hangout in Asheville, North Carolina. Brandon Davis and his husband, Davie, opened the bar and coffee shop shortly before the hurricane wreaked havoc along the Southeast coast, claiming at least 242 lives and causing damages estimated at $47.5 billion. Upon returning after the storm on September 26, the couple found their establishment in ruins. Davis told NBC News, “It looked like a scene from an end-of-the-world movie,” describing the flooding that submerged the building under 23 feet of water. Despite the devastation, the couple remains hopeful. The crowdfunding effort, started by a friend has garnered over $196,837, so far, which is more than the goal of $180,000. #Queer Up Business
