Billy Porter Slams Lack Of Queer Artist Education During LGBT History Month

Billy Porter has voiced frustration with education systems that ignore the contributions of queer artists to American culture. He was on Live With Kelly and Mark to promote his new musical, 'Billy Strayhorn: Something to Live For,' which is currently playing in Pittsburgh. Porter talked about how people loved Duke Ellington but ignored Billy Strayhorn who was one of the masterminds behind Duke Ellington’s success. Strayhorn was one of the rare men in the jazz world to be openly gay. However, he lived in the older and more famous man's shadow publicly due to his sexuality. Porter believes that his new musical will bring Strayhorn’s story to life. #Queer Up Education
