Gay supporters of Trump and the MAGA movement feel that the gay rights movement is becoming increasingly leftist and leaving them behind, seemingly ignoring the history of the civil rights movement and it's liberal roots. In an interview with the New York Post, Hell's Kitchen resident Mark Dorman explained how he was blacklisted from his favorite gay bar, Atlas Social Club, after being outspoken in his support of former President Trump. 64-year-old Dorman said, “It feels like the Soviet Union, Marxist environment now. With the gay community, they feel that Republicans on the far right have an anti-gay thing. Yes, they have a certain religious belief. They have a right to say they don’t like that lifestyle. It’s an embarrassment to see this kind of behavior… I’d really invite them to go to Iran or Gaza. See what that does for you. See how fast they throw you in prison or kill you.” He also discussed how his husband nearly divorced him and kicked him out of the house when Trump won in 2016. MAGA Gays also point to the embracing of causes supporting other minorities, especially the growing use of the Progress Pride Flag. Gay culture critic Andrew Sullivan said of the Progress Pride Flag, “It’s an aesthetic and design monstrosity that no gay man should approve of.
