The iconic intersection of Las Olas and A1A has been a source of frustration for drivers for many months. This streetscape project is worth over $10.9 million and aims to be completed by January 31. City officials claim that once completed walking along A1A will be safer due to upgraded sidewalks constructed with a distinctive hardscape pattern. In addition, Palms previously situated in the middle of the sidewalk are being relocated to the curb, expanding the walking space on both sides of A1A. A total of 32 coconut palms and nine date palms will also be planted along Southeast Fifth Street by the Fort Lauderdale Beach parking lot, extending north to Poinsettia Street. Various site furnishing elements, including accent seating and 109 bollards, will be installed. LED pedestrian lights will line A1A, featuring amber-colored lighting during turtle nesting season and transitioning to white lighting throughout the rest of the year. #Queer Up South Florida & Florida
