Libby Gonzales, a 13-year-old Texan and one of the people who helped plan the first-ever transgender youth prom at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., shared big ideas like boba tea bar and face painting. The prom had a drag performance by MC Stormie Daie, live music, and mostly pop and rock anthems by artists like ABBA, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry. The trans prom is meant to emphasize the pride and joy and happiness that is within the trans community that cannot be broken. The prom’s other three organizers, Daniel Trujillo, Grayson McFerrin, and Hobbes Chukumba are among the 200+ people who attended the prom on May 22. In the US proms have long been a celebratory rite of passage toward adulthood, self-actualization, and independence. #Trans Rights
