In an emotional tribute to Matthew Shepard's enduring legacy, Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts proudly presents "Considering Matthew Shepard" by Craig Hella Johnson. The artistic director of the Master Chorale of South Florida, Brett Karlin will conduct the event. As the artistic director of the Master Chorale of South Florida, Karlin oversees 120 singers in performing choral-orchestral masterpieces and coordinating collaborative efforts with renowned artists and ensembles. Entering his tenth season with aster Chorale of South Florida, he conducts classical works like Verdi’s Requiem, Bach’s Jesu meine Freude, Brahms’ Schicksalslied, and holiday favorites. Considering Matthew Shepard delves into the life of Matthew Shepard. Drawing from Shepard's own words, interviews with his parents, and newspaper accounts of his murder, the piece has been hailed as "powerfully cathartic" and "a deeply moving experience." As part of this season's "Concert for a Cause," a portion of the proceeds from these performances will benefit SunServe, a local organization working for LGBTQ+ community. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 31, and June 1. Tickets are priced at $40 in advance, and $45 at the door, with preferred seating available for $55. Importantly, students can attend free of charge.
