Several former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants have joined forces to establish Drag PAC, a political action committee aimed at defending LGBTQ+ rights through democratic action in 2024. The initiative, announced via YouTube, features Alaska, Jinkx Monsoon, BenDeLaCreme, Peppermint, and Monét X Change as founding members. The group’s formation comes in response to a surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation across the country, including measures targeting drag performances. The video shows Jinkx Monsoon saying, “I think everyone is a little disheartened with a lot of our elected leadership, and frankly, our community is being assaulted, and it’s escalating to violence.” Drag PAC intends to combat this trend by focusing on voter registration and mobilization. They aim to engage the 80 million registered voters who abstained in the 2020 election. Highlighting the urgency, the PAC points out that six Republican-led states have already passed laws restricting drag performances, though many have faced legal challenges. This is the not the first effort taken by the drag community in support of LGBTQ+ rights. Recently, Drag Race stars like Jiggly Caliente, Brigitte Bandit, and Joey Jay also visited the House of Representatives to advocate for increased LGBTQ+ protections #Queer Up Drag Culture
