Four out of 26 recipients of the prestigious 2024 MacArthur Fellowship are LGBTQ individuals, each receiving $800,000 to further their work. Among them is Justin Vivian Bond, a cabaret artist, who gained fame during the AIDS crisis with their drag persona Kiki DuRane. The second person is a Poet named Jericho Brown who explores Black masculinity, spirituality, and racial identity through his work. Another recipient Choreographer Shamel Pitts merges ballet, electronic music, and Afro-futurism in multidisciplinary performances.
