Ghana’s Parliament is revisiting the contentious Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021. This move aims to address 14 clauses, proposing community service instead of incarceration for those advocating LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana. By initiating a second consideration stage, Parliament bypasses the third reading, postponing the bill's scheduled passage on February 15. Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah stated that further amendments may be made before final passage. Lead sponsor MP Sam George affirmed commitment to seeing the process through. If passed, the bill would increase penalties for homosexuality and criminalize identifying as LGBTQ+ or supporting LGBTQ+ rights. This legislation reflects a trend of anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Sub-Saharan Africa. #Queer Up The World View
