Harley-Davidson has announced that it is ending its diversity and progressive initiatives following attacks from conservative Twitter “activist” Robby Starbuck. The company joins brands like John Deere and Tractor Supply Co. in retracting similar, inclusive programs. In a statement posted on Twitter, Harley-Davidson expressed disappointment over recent social media negativity, which they described as “designed to divide the Harley-Davidson community.” The statement clarified that the company has not had a DEI function since April 2024, it does not have hiring quotas, and it no longer has supplier diversity spending goals. Harley-Davidson announced that it will reassess all its sponsorships and partnerships. The company also stated that it will no longer engage with the Human Rights Campaign. However, the company reaffirmed its commitment to a broad employee and customer base, stating, “We believe having both a broad employee and customer base is good for business and that ultimately everybody should experience the joy of riding a Harley-Davidson.” Starbuck’s started its campaign against Harley-Davidson on July 23, accusing it of “going totally woke” by sponsoring a boot camp for LGBTQ entrepreneurs, donating to United Way, and striving for workforce diversity. Robby Starbuck celebrated the decision on Twitter, calling it “another win for our movement,” while the Human Rights Campaign criticized the decision as “an impulsive decision fueled by fringe right-wing actors.” #Queer Up Business
