Here's What The + Really Means And Other Notes About The LGBTQ Acronym

When you hear LGBTQ+, the "plus" is crucial for understanding the full spectrum of sexual and gender identities. While LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning, the “plus” includes those who identify outside these categories, such as pansexual, asexual, pomosexual, abrosexual, intersex, and genderfluid. GLAAD emphasizes that “Coverage of LGBTQ issues has moved beyond simplistic political dichotomies and toward more fully realized representations.” It has two common variants currently in use: LGBTQIA, which was coined at the University of California to include intersex and asexual individuals. And LGBTTQQIAPP, stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, ally, and pansexual. However, this longer acronym has faced criticism for its length. Which version do you prefer? #Queer Up Gay Culture
