In a significant update for Sunshine Cathedral, husbands Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins and Rev. Dr. Robert Griffin have been promoted to bishops. Now addressed as Bishop Durrell Watkins, Senior Minister, and Bishop Robert Griffin, Executive Minister, the two have faithfully led the cathedral's congregation for years, each contributing distinct strengths to the church’s mission. Bishop Durrell’s focus has been on casting the church’s vision, preaching, and leading worship, while Bishop Robert oversees its administration. Historically, bishops have been seen as overseers and evangelists within Christian ministry, mentoring leaders, guiding spiritual communities, and spreading their influence beyond single congregations. Reflecting this tradition, both bishops are active in social media, affiliated with multiple boards, and involved with the Global Justice Institute, whose presiding Bishop Pat Bumgardner recently designated them Auxiliary Bishops.
