According to sources from CNN, ACU chair Matt Schlapp paid $480,000 to Carlton Huffman, who accused him of sexual assault, to drop the lawsuit. Huffman, a former staffer for Herschel Walker's campaign, claimed Schlapp assaulted him during a car ride while working. Initially alleging groping and fondling, Huffman said Schlapp made unwanted advances at bars prior. Even though Huffman rejected Schlapp’s request to increase the proximity, Schlapp asked him to ride again. At that point, Huffman said he couldn't. After informing a senior official from Walker's campaign about his discomfort with Schlapp, Huffman was advised not to drive him. He conveyed his unease to Schlapp via text, which Schlapp repeatedly urged him to discuss over the phone, though Huffman declined. Huffman filed a lawsuit against both Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes, alleging sexual assault and defamation, seeking $9 million. However, now he has dropped the lawsuit saying, “The claims made in my lawsuits were the result of a complete misunderstanding, and I regret that the lawsuit caused pain to the Schlapp family.” CNN sources suggest a $480,000 settlement was paid from an insurance policy, absolving the Schlapps and ACU of direct payment. #Queer Up Politics
