Lesbian Poet & Artist Etel Adnan Celebrated By Google Doodle

Lesbian poet and artist Etel Adnan was celebrated on April 15 with a Google Doodle honoring her life and achievements. The Doodle featured an illustration of the American-Lebanese creator surrounded by colorful paintings. April 15 marked the date of Adnan's first solo exhibition in San Rafael, California in 1955. Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1925 to a Greek Orthodox mother and a Sunni-Muslim Turkish father, Adnan grew up bilingual in Greek and Turkish, later studying in French and English. Adnan openly embraced her identity as a lesbian and shared her life with partner Simone Fattal until her passing. #Lesbian Culture
