MacKenzie Scott Says LGBTQ+"Are Vital Agents Of Change.” Donates $30 Million To LGBTQ+ Non-profits

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott recently made a significant impact by donating over $30 million to various LGBTQ+ nonprofits across the United States. The ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced her contributions to 279 nonprofits, with 15 focusing on LGBTQ+ causes, receiving $2 million each. An additional 82 nonprofits were awarded $1 million each, with unrestricted funding allowing flexibility in usage. Recipients include EdgeNJ, Gender Justice, GLAD, LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, Long Beach LGBTQ Center, Pacific Center for Human Growth, Peace Is Loud, and The Wall Las Memorias, among others. Scott chose the recipients through an open call, with over 6,000 applicants on her donation database named Yield Giving. While announcing the recipients, Scott wrote that she aims to support those who work to refine access to foundational resources for their community. She said, “They are vital agents of change.” Scott, who inherited her wealth after divorcing Bezos in 2019, has donated $17.3 billion to over 2,300 organizations so far. Initially planning 250 awards of $1 million, she doubled the amount amid criticism from Elon Musk on Twitter. Following a complaint about Scott's donations to organizations addressing "issues of race and/or gender," Elon Musk responded through a now-deleted post, saying, “Super rich ex-wives who hate their former spouse’ should be listed among ‘Reasons that Western Civilization died.'" Musk has been divorced three times. #Queer Up Business
