Maddow Sounds Alarm on GOP Efforts to Block Election Results

Rachel Maddow has expressed deep concerns about the upcoming presidential election, but not due to doubts about Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. Instead, Maddow is worried about the efforts of Trump-supporting Republicans to refuse to certify election results. In a New York Times column, Maddow draws a parallel to mid-20th century racist demagogue Gerald L.K. Smith, who once sought to overturn John F. Kennedy’s victory. She warns the readers, “Trumpers have refined the process.” Maddow points to Georgia’s new election board rule allowing county officials “the option to delay or refuse certification in order to make a ‘reasonable inquiry’ into the results. What counts as a ‘reasonable inquiry?’ The new rule does not say.” The rule contradicts the Georgia law that requires officials to certify the results within a week. Maddow also mentions that in a state where Republicans have delayed or refused certification at least seven times since 2020 — the highest in the nation — this rule adds another layer of confusion to the legal landscape just 100 days before the election. Maddow foresees a potential scenario where Georgia might refuse to certify a Harris victory. She warns that similar actions could occur in other swing states as well. To combat this, she urges action, saying, “Now is the time to get to know your local election board….Public awareness and vigilance can make a difference.” #Queer Up Politics
