Recently, many places of worship have been targeted by extremists in the United States because they are supporting LGBTQ+ people. According to a new report from GLAAD and the Anti-Defamation League, between June 2022 and January 2024, over 60 incidents were reported, including arson and threatening messages. These attacks happened at churches, synagogues, mosques, and other religious buildings. Some people feel angry about these places supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, so they are trying to scare them into stopping. One example is Aimenn D. Penny, who admitted to firebombing a church in Ohio because it hosted drag events. Another incident involved someone driving their car through a Pride exhibit at a church in Washington. In Pasadena, California, a Pride flag was set on fire outside a Buddhist temple. Even during Pride Month, graffiti threatening LGBTQ+ people was found on a church steeple in Boston. Ross Murray from GLAAD says that despite these attacks, religious communities should continue supporting LGBTQ+ people. It's important for everyone to feel safe and welcome, regardless of who they are. These incidents show that there's still work to be done to ensure everyone can practice their faith without fear. #Queer Up Religion
