Mr. Florida Rubber recently announced some important news about the organization's future direction. And the announcement has significant impacts on the diversity of the entire LGBTQ+ community. Since hosting its inaugural contest at the Ramrod in 2009, the organization has consistently modified different aspects of its events to promote inclusiveness. This includes the introduction of a sober social, a greater focus on social spaces at parties, and collaboration with venues that support an inclusive environment. The organization believes that the new announcement will take them a step closer to fostering inclusivity. Starting in 2024, the organization is removing the requirement of enrolling only male contestants. Everyone will be welcome to participate from now onwards and the winner will hold the title of Mr., Ms., Mx. Florida Rubber, or simply Florida Rubber Ambassador. The organization also announced that MIR, the international competition the contestants can participate in, has implemented this same change. To support these new commitments the non-profit organization has also amended its name from Mr. Florida Rubber to Florida Rubber. The final transitions for the logos, websites, emails, and other brand components will be completed in the coming weeks. In Florida that has been America’s ground zero for gender, trans, drag, and other attacks from radical conservatives the changes are a significant LGBTQ+ community story.
