A recent study conducted among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in the United Kingdom revealed challenges in accessing medical testing and treatment for mpox (formerly known as monkeypox). Participants reported facing stigma associated with the disease and encountering negative reactions from both heterosexual and LGBTQ+ communities upon receiving their diagnoses. Published in eClinicalMedicine, the study named "Experiences of mpox illness and case management among cis and trans gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in England: a qualitative study" utilized in-depth interviews with 22 GBMSM who contracted pox and four stakeholders from clinical and communication organizations. Conducted between March and July 2023, the interviews provided valuable insights into the experiences and case management of pox illness among this demographic. Following the U.S. Government Accountability Office's report on the 2022 outbreak, the U.K. study has emerged. The US report prompted Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) to introduce the Coordinated Agency Response Enhancement (CARE) Act, aiming to revamp federal public health emergency management. The U.K. study was published this year by lead researcher T. Charles Witzel. #Queer Up Health
