Oklahoma Wants to Ban State Agencies From Celebrating June Pride Month

The "Patriotism Not Pride Act" introduced in the Oklahoma Legislature by Republican state Rep. Kevin West aims to prevent state agencies from observing LGBTQ+ Pride Month or displaying Pride flags on state property. If passed, it would forbid the use of public funds for activities promoting LGBTQ+ Pride. Sponsored by West and Republican state Sen. David Bullard, the bill prohibits state agencies from engaging in events, initiatives, or campaigns related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month. It also triggers an immediate state of emergency for public safety and bans any flags representing sexual orientation or gender identity on state grounds. This legislation marks one of the initial attempts to restrict state funding for Pride celebrations. #Queer Up The USA View
