Parents Say New North Carolina "Parental Bill Of Rights" Is Against Federal Law

The Parents' Bill of Rights, or SB49, became law in North Carolina on Aug. 16, banning curriculum on gender identity, sexual activity, and sexuality from being taught in kindergarten through fourth-grade classrooms. However, During a meeting on Monday, parents and community members conveyed their opinion to the Asheville City Schools Board, by telling it not to implement the law in the schools. The law targets the LGBTQ+ community and critics think it may force children, who aren’t ready, to come out to their parents. Several members from Campaign for Southern Equality, an Asheville-based LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, have also spoken against the law, saying it violates Title IX. #Queer Up Education
