In a historic event celebrating Pride Month, President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited Stonewall in New York City last Friday. They attended the grand opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. Biden became the first sitting president to visit the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, commemorating the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. Reflecting on his earlier visit as a private citizen in 2019, Biden emphasized Stonewall’s role in advancing civil rights in America. Addressing the LGBTQ+ community, he said, "You marked a turning point in civil rights in America.” Recognizing the courage and contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals, Biden praised their impact on American society, saying, "Your courage and contributions enrich every part of American life. You set an example for the entire world.” Biden also addressed the transgender community, saying, "Stonewall remains a symbol of the legacy of leadership in the LGBTQ+ community, especially trans women of color.” The event also featured Elton John, a renowned singer and LGBTQ+ rights advocate who used the platform to address the community's ongoing challenges. Following the opening, the Bidens attended the 25th annual LGBTQ+ Leadership Council Gala in New York City, supporting initiatives that promote equality and inclusion. #Queer Up Gay Culture
