The beloved gay penguin Sphen recently passed away at an Australian aquarium, sparking a surge in Google searches asking, “Can animals be gay?” The answer is yes, and researchers can prove it. One research from Estación Experimental de Zonas Áridas in Spain confirms that same-sex activity is common across the animal kingdom. Scientists have documented various behaviors like courtship, mounting, genital contact, copulation, and pair bonding. Notably, 87% of recorded interactions involved mounting and genital contact. The study found that over 1,500 animal species, from spiders to mammals, engage in same-sex activities. Among mammals, this behavior is more frequent, observed in 261 species across 62 families. The research also revealed a slight prevalence of male-on-male activity compared to female-on-female. #Queer Up Gay Culture
