Rowling And Musk Named in Cyber Harassment Lawsuit By Olympic Women’s Boxing Champion

Author J.K. Rowling and tech billionaire Elon Musk have remained notably silent on social media following reports that they are named in a criminal complaint filed by Algerian Olympian Imane Khelif. The complaint, lodged with French authorities, accuses both figures of “acts of aggravated cyber harassment” against Khelif, who won gold in women's 66 kilogram boxing at the Paris Summer Games. Khelif’s lawyer, Nabil Boudi, confirmed to Variety that the complaint, posted on August 9, was submitted to the Paris Prosecutor’s Office's National Center for the Fight Against Online Hatred. The lawsuit names "X," a placeholder term under French law for unidentified individuals, allowing the investigation to encompass all potential contributors of hateful messages, including those using pseudonyms. Boudi clarified that while Trump is not specifically named, his anti-transgender tweets will be scrutinized as part of the broader investigation. During the Olympics, Rowling called Khelif a man who was “enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head.” Similarly, Musk endorsed an anti-trans message from activist Riley Gaines. Trump also posted a controversial message on Truth Social regarding Khelif's participation in women’s sports. Despite the abuse, Khelif, who does not identify as trans or intersex, secured her Olympic victory. Other targets of similar online hate during the Paris Games include artistic director Thomas Jolly and DJ Barbara Butch, who have also filed complaints. #Queer Up Sports
