RuPaul’s Drag Race Announces Season 16, $200,000 Prize And Two South Florida Drag Queen Contestants

RuPaul’s Drag Race has reached her sweet 16, and with some of the biggest new season announcements in history. The Emmy-winning reality competition series returns to MTV on January 5. Today it was Ru-vealed who the 14 new drag queens are competing for the gigantic $200,000 grand prize and the title of America’s next drag superstar. For the first time in series history South Florida has two contestants. First is 34 year old Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige from Miami. RuPaul and MTV said “Get ready for your world to be turned upside down! An electrifying performer, Mhi’ya is known as the Queen of Flips. That’s because you can find Mhi’ya performing her thrilling flips and tricks in the sun, on the sidewalks of South Beach. Mhi’ya’s videos of her flipping onto café tables have caught fire on social media– now she’s ready to flip the competition on its head!” South Florida’s second fierce contestant is 25 year old Morphine Love Dion from Miami. RuPaul and MTV had choice words including “Body, beauty and ‘mug’: just what the doctor ordered. Morphine started out doing makeup tutorials on social media. Now, she is the self-proclaimed ‘It Girl of Miami.’ Can this trained dancer– who has been featured in Maluma and Bad Bunny music videos– cha cha her way to the top of the competition?” The two-part series premiere will feature the queens showing off their stuff in the annual talent show, which has become a mainstay on the series. This year, however, the show — which will be themed separately for MTV’s Spring Break and the “Queen Choice Awards” — will feature a new twist in the competition, “Rate-A-Queen.” After the performances have ended, the contestants must rank their fellow queens’ performances to determine the tops and bottoms of the week. Here are the other queens including two from Los Angeles including Amanda Tori Meating and Hershii LiqCour-Jete. 3 queens from New York’s including Megami, Nympia Wind, Plasma, Xunami Muse. Las Vegas has Mirage, Boston is represented by Plane Jane, Kansas City by Q and Philadelphia by Sapphira Cristal. Other breaking news includes that the aftershow “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked” is also returning, airing immediately following the series. And yes, after last year’s controversial switch to 60-minute episodes, “Drag Race” has returned to its full glory, with each episode running 90 minutes. #Queer Up Drag Culture
