Sade's Upcoming Album To Honor Her Trans Son

Jazz-pop legend Sade is releasing her first new song in six years. This new song, named “Young Lion,” is in honor of her trans son, Izaak. The track will appear on Transa, a transgender awareness album, out November 22. The compilation album, organized by the Red Hot Organization, will feature trans and nonbinary artists. Dust Reid, Red Hot’s Executive Director, explained, “We started talking about all the gifts that trans artists have been giving to the world and wanted to create a Red Hot project that centered and celebrated those gifts.” Reid emphasized that exploring one’s gender could foster values like community, care, and healing for everyone. Sade last released music in 2018 for the films A Wrinkle in Time and Widows. Her son, Izaak, who came out as trans in 2016, underwent gender confirmation surgery in 2019 and has publicly thanked his mother for her unwavering support. Transa features over 100 artists, with 46 songs across eight chapters. Contributors include Sam Smith, André 3000, and Wendy & Lisa, who perform a cover of Prince’s “I Would Die 4 You” with Lauren Auder. #Queer Up Entertainment
