Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, is separating some books with LGBTQ+ themes and discussions of race in a special book fair collection, which elementary schools can opt into – or out of. Scholastic has created a collection of 64 titles known as “Share Every Story, Celebrate Every Voice” which includes books most likely to be restricted. Schools can exclude the collection when hosting a book fair, display it when families shop together, or order individual titles. The decision was made in response to dozens of state laws and pending legislation across the United States that target LGBTQ+ titles and books that discuss racism. #Queer Up Education
