The South Florida Community Mourns Lesbian Poet and Educator Maureen Seaton

Lesbian poet and educator Maureen Seaton, who earned countless accolades in her lifetime, including Lambda Literary Awards for her 1996 poetry collection “Furious Cooking” and her 2008 memoir “Sex Talks To Girls,” died after a long illness on August 26, at the age of 75. Seaton taught for many years in Chicago at Columbia College, the School of the Art Institute, and the University of Miami. She was loved and respected by her students. She used collage techniques to create delight and dissonance in her work, making it surrealistic. As a poet, Maureen Seaton influenced generations of queer writers and readers. She will be greatly missed. #Lesbian Culture
