In recent years, Republican lawmakers nationwide have targeted transgender individuals' access to gender-affirming healthcare. Now, half of all U.S. states plan to ban such care for transgender youth, impacting adults too. Several states, including Florida, have restricted access to gender-affirming care for adults. Last year, Florida enacted a law mandating in-person physician treatment, limiting nurse practitioner and telehealth options. A Data for Progress study reveals 24% of transgender adults faced disrupted access to gender-affirming care in the past year. Additionally, one in five avoided medical care due to concerns about discrimination. According to the Data, 38% of transgender adults are contemplating relocating due to anti-LGBTQ+ laws, aligning with findings from the U.S. Transgender Survey, which reports 47% considering leaving their state. Results also indicate 65% of transgender adults perceive a decline in LGBTQ+ quality of life in the past year, compared to 34% of cisgender gay and bisexual adults. Mental health is adversely affected for 79% of transgender adults and 50% of cisgender gay and bisexual adults due to anti-LGBTQ+ policies. Additionally, 67% of transgender adults and 40% of cisgender gay and bisexual adults reported encountering anti-LGBTQ+ remarks from acquaintances in the past year. These trends highlight the pervasive impact of discriminatory legislation on both transgender and cisgender LGBTQ+ individuals. #Trans Rights
