Montana state Representative Zooey Zephyr, an openly transgender Democrat, has won her reelection, marking her return to the House floor nearly two years after Republicans sanctioned her. Zephyr, who represents Missoula’s majority-Democrat district, defeated Republican Barbara Starmer. She posted on social media, "It is an honor to have been re-elected," and pledging to "fight for my constituents...and be a bulwark against the rising tide of American fascism." Republicans barred Zephyr from speaking in 2023 following her outspoken stance against banning youth gender-affirming care.
