In a recent opinion piece in the Sun Sentinel, columnist Scott Maxwell shared his views on why Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis continues to attack the LGBTQ+ community. The inspiration for the article was the recent veto of arts funding in Florida by DeSantis because a few of the arts groups promoted “sexual” content. Maxwell writes in the article, "Now, if DeSantis had specifically targeted funding for a convention sponsored by Playboy or maybe a threesome-loving Moms for Liberty founder, that might’ve made some sense. But he didn’t. He nixed money for opera companies, science centers, children’s museums and family theaters." Florida's economists estimate that the arts & cultural sectors generate almost $6 Billion annual, and support more than 90,000 full-time jobs. But to DeSantis it's a continuation of his obsession over LGBTQ+ and drag queens, including the stunt where he attempted to pull the license from the Orlando Philharmonic over the "lewd acts" in A Drag Queen Christmas, even though his own state agents said no such behavior was present. #Queer Up Politics
