Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library Executive Director Robert Kesten recently visited Topeka, Kansas, to see the renowned Rainbow House, also known as the Equality House. The house, a vibrant symbol of love and LGBTQ rights, stands in stark contrast to the infamous Westboro Baptist Church, located directly across the street. The Westboro Baptist Church is known for its hateful protests against LGBTQ individuals, veterans, and Jewish people. During his visit, Kesten met with Planting Peace Founder Aaron Jackson, who owns the Rainbow House. While there, Kesten made a TikTok Video where he showed Westboro Baptist Church and then clicked his feet three times and showed Rainbow House. This playful video refers to the ruby slippers from the queer favorite 1939 musical The Wizard of Oz. Where Dorothy had to click the heels three times to return home to Kansas. Judy Garland, who played Dorothy, is a gay icon. The video highlights the Rainbow House's role as a beacon of acceptance in the face of adversity. Rainbow House may host a Stonewall exhibit in the future. #Queer Up Gay Culture
