Wilton Manors May Have More Big Events, Maybe?

At the recent city commission meeting, Mayor Scott Newton's prediction of a lengthy session proved accurate as commissioners convened for four hours, addressing various significant issues. The session's most contentious discussion revolved around a proposal to overhaul the city's permitting process for large events where more than 1,001 people gather. The proposal was criticized for its internal inconsistencies as it included a requirement for a 90-day gap between major events. This rule would potentially limit the scheduling of popular events like Stonewall in mid-to-late June and Wicked Manors on October 31, leaving only a February slot available. There was support for reducing the interval to 30 days. Given the absence of other major events vying for dates, some viewed this change as a solution seeking a problem. Commissioners expressed concerns that the proposal seemed to address a problem that might not exist. Consequently, the flawed proposal was returned to city staff for revision. #Queer Up South Florida & Florida
